This common drink decreases the risk of depression.
The risk of depression appears to decrease for women with increasing consumption of caffeinated coffee.
Depression affects one of every five U.S. women during their lifetime. Caffeine is the most frequent used central nervous system stimulant. About 80% of caffeine consumption is in the form of coffee. Previous research among med suggested an association between coffee consumption and depression risk.
The Harvard School of Public Health in Boston studied 50,739 senior women for 10 years who had no depression at the start of the study. Women who consumed 2 to 3 cups of caffeine coffee per day had a 15% decreased risk for depression. Women who consumed 4 or more cups of caffeine coffee per day had a 20% decreased risk for depression.
Researchers did not find any association between intake of decaffeinated coffee and depression risk.
